CLEARWATER - Clearwater police are investigating two wrecks this morning. In one, a vehicle hit two houses. In the other, a car hit a person.
The white 1996 Ford that struck the homes first struck an electrical pole, snapping the support guide wires, in front of a home at 2117 Hercules Ave., investigators say. Then it struck a mailbox and a chain-link fence at 2109 Hercules and a white picket fence at 2101 Hercules.
It struck a home at 2001 Hercules, causing $20,000 in structural damage, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Ford continued on, striking a wooden fence at 2072 Butternut Circle W., finally crashing into a home there and causing $10,000 damage, troopers say.
No one was injured. The driver left the scene and hasn't been identified, troopers say.
"Following the crash, the owner of the Ford, Richard F. Heuthe, 50, of Palm Harbor, reported to authorities that the vehicle had been stolen earlier this morning," a Florida Highway Patrol news release states.
Anyone with information on the crashes can call Trooper Robert Ray at (813) 631-4020.
Also this morning in an unrelated incident, a vehicle struck a pedestrian at Keene Road and Union Street, said Elizabeth Daly-Watts, spokeswoman for Clearwater's Public Safety Department. The male pedestrian was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, she said.
