Advancing Civil Rights
Re: "Denied Equal Rights" (Letter Of The Day, Nov. 7):
Keith Edwards of Tampa wrote a wonderfully clear, current and cogent letter. You were wise to print it because it says what most of us gays and lesbians deeply feel. You have advanced civil and gay rights forward. Thanks.

Cultural Norms Defended
Re: "Explore Amendment 2" (Letters, Nov. 16):
The problem of Amendment 2 was that it confused civil unions by inserting our culture's definition of marriage "as between a man and a woman."
Civil rights can be guaranteed by legislation; cultural norms cannot. Put civil unions on the ballot, and I believe it would pass hands down.
Better luck next time.

Tax The Tourists
How about the year that Tampa is having? Sports are bringing millions of dollars into our economy.
If businesses know what's good for them, they will jack up the prices for tourists and give a Florida residency discount. It's a better way to scrape out a few extra dollars than the conventional way of taxing everyone who lives here.
