ZEPHYRHILLS - A 62-year-old man who lived alone lost his mobile home Thursday to an early morning fire, according to Pasco County Fire Rescue.
The lone occupant got out unscathed, fire rescue officials said, but the home is uninhabitable.
The blaze was reported at 4:30 a.m. in a small mobile home park at 4644 Kimball Court. About 16 firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after the call came in and the fire was under control 16 minutes later, Acting Assistant Chief Mike Ciccarello said.
The resident awoke and saw the extension cord to his space heater ablaze, Ciccarello said. That was the cause of the fire, he added.
The American Red Cross was called in to the help the man.
Hours before, off Tucker Road, another single-wide mobile home caught fire where a man lived alone.
Firefighters arrived at 4107 Peaceful Lane shortly after a reported fire at 10:12 p.m. Wednesday. It took about 16 firefighters with two engines and support equipment to get the blaze under control within 10 minutes, Ciccarello said.
The man who lived there wasn't injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but its origin was the kitchen, Ciccarello said.
