DADE CITY - Dade City Commissioners passed a resolution this week to formally oppose a plan to extend the Florida State Fair from 12 to 18 days.
The Florida State Fair Authority wants to add six more days starting in 2010. The new dates would overlap Pasco County's Fair, which usually starts on Presidents Day, the same day the Florida State Fair ends.
Dade City has been home to the county fair since 1948. Mayor Scott Black said if the state fair wants to add six days, it should start earlier.
Fairs and festivals must be permitted by the Florida Department of Agriculture.
Pasco County commissioners also have formally opposed the schedule change.
