DUI Stop Leads To Drug Charges
SAN ANTONIO A Tampa man faces charges of cocaine possession and driving under the influence after he was stopped while driving north on Interstate 75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Rolando L. Diaz, 31, of 3130 W. Lambright Ave., was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Friday, the patrol said. An off-duty Tampa police officer saw Diaz's vehicle weaving on the interstate and stopped him at State Road 52 and called 911.
Diaz thought he was on the Veterans Expressway heading to Ybor City, the patrol said. His blood-alcohol level was about 0.05 – below the legal limit of 0.08 – but he failed roadside sobriety tests.
When Diaz was booked at the Land O' Lakes Jail deputies found a small bag in his pocket that tested positive for cocaine, the patrol said.
He is being held today at the Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $3,250.
