Bradenton Man Critical After His Vehicle Strikes Tree

A 19-year-old man from Bradenton is in critical condition after his vehicle spun out of control on U.S. 41 in Manatee County Saturday night.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Brian Nichols, Jr., was taken to Bayfront Medical Center.

Nichols was heading north on U.S. 41 about 9:20 p.m. when his 2003 Subaru started to spin across the road's center lane. The car twirled into the median where it hit a tree and continued to spin until it stopped a few feet from where it hit the tree, the highway patrol said.

The accident is under investigation, though the accident report said alcohol was not involved. Nichols was wearing a seatbelt.
