BATON ROUGE, La. - Jevan Snead threw two touchdown passes, Markeith Summers ran for a 13-yard score out of the "Wild Rebel" formation and Mississippi won its fourth straight game, 31-13 against No. 18 LSU on Saturday.
Ole Miss (7-4, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) snapped a six-game losing streak against LSU (7-4, 3-4) with its first win in the long rivalry since 2001.
It also gave the Rebels the inside track to second place in the SEC West, which could result in a Cotton Bowl bid.
Snead was 16 of 25 for 274 yards. His scoring passes went for 34 and 25 yards, both to Mike Wallace.
Ole Miss was dominant on defense as well, knocking LSU starting quarterback Jarrett Lee out of the game and holding the Tigers to only one touchdown.
TENNESSEE 20,
VANDERBILT 10
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In the middle of one of its worst seasons in history, Tennessee still found a way to beat instate rival Vanderbilt.
Eric Berry returned his seventh interception of the season for a touchdown to help the Vols beat the Commodores.
The win helped Tennessee (4-7, 2-5) avoid a school-worst eight losses for at least one week, while Vanderbilt (6-5, 4-4) missed a chance to capture its second five-win SEC season.
The Vols were hoping to honor Phillip Fulmer with wins over Vanderbilt and in the season finale against Kentucky. Fulmer announced earlier this month that he was being pushed out as coach at the end of the season after 17 seasons with Tennessee.
Fulmer has only lost once in 16 games against Vanderbilt, a 28-24 decision in Knoxville in 2005 - Fulmer's only other losing season.
MISSISSIPPI STATE 31,
ARKANSAS 28
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Anthony Dixon rushed for a career-high 179 yards and had three touchdowns to help Mississippi State snap a nine-game losing streak to Arkansas.
The Bulldogs (4-7, 2-5), already eliminated from bowl contention, knocked the Razorbacks (4-7, 1-6) out of the postseason picture with their best offensive performance of the season against a league foe. Mississippi State took advantage of the SEC's worst defense, scoring the second most points in a game this season.
The Bulldogs came in averaging just 77.3 yards rushing per game against SEC opponents, but had 226. Dixon broke open a close contest with a 63-yard scoring run on a sweep down the left sideline and had touchdown catches from Tyson Lee of 1 and 10 yards. The 240-pound junior also had a 40-yard run that set up Arnil Stallworth's 10-yard scoring run in the second quarter.
