CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Jamelle Eugene jogged in for a rout-punctuating touchdown to the delight of thousands of red-clad North Carolina State fans crowded into a few sections of Kenan Stadium. Most of North Carolina's crowd had long since departed their home stadium to skip the humbling final minutes.
It was as satisfying a scene as the Wolfpack could have hoped for against their biggest rival.
Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns and had a key run in the third quarter to set up another score, and N.C. State beat the 25th-ranked Tar Heels 41-10 on Saturday, earning the program's first season sweep of the state's four other major college teams in more than two decades.
Eugene ran for two touchdowns and Andre Brown ran for another for N.C. State (5-6, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference), which kept its bowl hopes alive with a surprising domination of a team that entered Saturday with slim hopes of winning the league's muddled Coastal Division race.
Instead, the only title anyone was talking about afterward was the mythical "state championship" the Wolfpack had focused on entering the game. N.C. State has beaten North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest and East Carolina in the same season for the first time since 1986.
N.C. State scored 21 points in the third quarter to blow it open, earning its biggest win in the series since beating a 40-6 victory in 1989. N.C. State handed the Tar Heels (7-4, 3-4) their most lopsided loss under second-year coach Butch Davis.
BOSTON COLLEGE 24,
WAKE FOREST 21
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Backup quarterback Dominique Davis sneaked 1 yard for a touchdown with 1:12 remaining to lead Boston College past Wake Forest and keep its Atlantic Coast Conference title hopes alive.
Davis, who took over for the injured Chris Crane in the second quarter, was 13 of 23 for 103 yards, and two of his fumbles were returned for touchdowns.
But he made enough key throws on the decisive nine-play, 70-yard drive in the final 5 minutes to help the Eagles (8-3, 4-3) win in Winston-Salem for the first time.
Wake Forest fell to 6-5, 4-4.
CLEMSON 13,
VIRGINIA 3
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - C.J. Spiller threw the first touchdown pass of his career and Clemson scored all its points after Virginia turnovers.
The Tigers (6-5, 4-4) used two interceptions and a fumble recovery to get the first of two victories they need to qualify for a bowl game. They'll have to win again next week at home against rival South Carolina to reach the postseason because two of their victories came against Football Championship Subdivision teams.
Virginia (5-6, 3-4) lost its third in a row after a four-game winning streak put it in the race for the ACC's Coastal Division title. The loss left the Cavaliers needing to win next weekend at Virginia Tech to qualify for a bowl.
VIRGINIA TECH 14, DUKE 3
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sean Glennon threw for a touchdown and Macho Harris returned an interception for another as Virginia Tech defeated Duke.
The win keeps the Hokies (7-4, 4-3) in the running for the Coastal Division title, which they will clinch if they beat Virginia next week.
Glennon's pass to Jarrett Boykin 38 seconds before halftime was the first touchdown catch by one of the Hokies' wide receivers this year.
Nick Maggio had a 39-yard field goal for the Blue Devils (4-7, 1-6) to open the scoring early in the second quarter.
MIAMI ELIMINATED: Miami's wait to win its first Atlantic Coast Conference title will continue for at least another year.
The 23rd-ranked Hurricanes (7-4, 4-3) were eliminated from contention for the ACC's Coastal Division championship on Saturday, when Clemson defeated Virginia 13-3.
Miami finishes the regular season Saturday at N.C. State.
