A 79-year-old man died today after he lost control of his car, veered into oncoming traffic on Howell Avenue in Brooksville and crashed into another vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Eldon Drier, was taken to Brooksville Regional Hospital where he died, the highway patrol said.
The driver of the second vehicle, Gustav Vossberg, 82, of Inverness, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Vossberg's passenger, Norma Vossberg, 79, was taken to Brooksville Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
Drier was driving north on Howell Avenue about 11:30 a.m. when he lost control of his 1993 Buick and crossed the center line of the road, troopers said. The Buick hit Vossberg's 2005 Lincoln head-on.
The crash is under investigation.
