DADE CITY - Berkeley Prep's Karl Stonesifer and Tyler Greathouse finished next to each other during the Class 1A state cross country meet Saturday at Little Everglades Ranch.
Stonesifer was 13th with a time of 16:30, and Greathouse was right behind him at 16:31.
Together, they led Berkeley's boys to a fourth-place finish with 146 points. Holy Trinity Academy won the team title with 51.
One of the Berkeley runners was happy and the other was disappointed with the race.
The meet was run in the middle of the morning. Earlier, runners had problems with temperatures in the 40s, but the weather was better when Berkeley Prep ran, although there were problems with the wind.
"I think we did all right," Stonesifer said. "We were working with each other. The weather was pleasant. The wind did pick up."
Greathouse had a different account. "I ran awful," he said. "Bad race."
Their coach saw things a little differently.
"I guess the wind was picking up during the race," Berkeley Prep coach Eileen Daly said. "We are excited with the way they did. I was hoping they would stay with the front pack. They had a decent race. We were seeded fourth coming in. They ran great.
"Fourth is absolutely good with us. They had a great day. For me, it is about them striving to perform and having fun. I think overall, they had a good time. It was a good day."
