Channel 28 News Director Gets Job Offer He Couldn't Refuse

The news director at WFTS, Channel 28, is leaving the station to become vice president of communications for a group of companies owned by a Tampa lawyer.

Chris Jadick, who has been with Channel 28 since 2005, told his staff Tuesday morning that he is leaving in January to become vice president of communications, public relations and strategic development for Salem Enterprise Solutions. SES is the parent company for businesses and nonprofit enterprises owned by lawyer Richard Salem.

"This is an opportunity that I couldn't pass up," Jadick said. "These are worthwhile businesses, and the job offers new challenges for me. After more than 20 years in television news, I will be doing something different, but I will still be dealing with communications."

WFTS General Manager Rich Pegram said Jadick had told him recently that this offer had been made. "He is going to what sounds like a terrific job, and we wish him the best," Pegram said. "We are beginning the search for a news director, and this is a terrific city and a terrific company, so I'm sure we'll have lots of wonderful candidates."

Jadick will supervise communications for Salem-owned Farm Pilot Project Coordination, which supports and develops new green technology; Thermal Matrix, which develops and deploys security technology; Enable America, which promotes the hiring of people with disabilities; OTH Services, which converts documents into digital images; and The Salem Law Group.

"Chris brings a strong management background and a keen knowledge and understanding of the public interest, which will be invaluable as we continue to grow our companies," Salem said.

Before working at WFTS, Jadick was news director at WAVE TV, the NBC affiliate in Louisville, Ky., and executive producer at WTVT, the Fox affiliate in Tampa.
