TAMPA - A Deborah Giglio remembers her father could be a stern task master.

"He always gave his very best and expected us to do likewise," she said. "And to think of others and to give to others in less fortunate situations."

Retired Circuit Judge Vincent E. Giglio died Thursday. A prayer service will be at 7:30 tonight at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 5225 N. Himes Ave. Visitation will be at the church from 6 to 9 p.m.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Giglio said her father was devoted to his family, and he was a loyal friend.

"Behind his solemn demeanor was this fun-loving person," she said. "Even after he retired, he loved going to the West Tampa Sandwich Shop to visit with his cronies on their way to the courthouse in the morning."

She said the outpouring of condolences have meant a lot to the family.

"I have always been very proud of my father and even more so to hear his peers and other judges and lawyers compliment him," she said. "He was such a thoughtful and compassionate judge."

His love of family led him to spend most of his 12-year judicial career in juvenile court.

"He was always concerned about the welfare of the children," she said.

Vincent Giglio, 74, died from the complications of Parkinson's disease.

He was a graduate of Plant High School and the University of Florida. He received his law degree from the Stetson College of Law. He was appointed to the bench in 1984 by Gov. Bob Graham and retired in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wimmer Giglio; daughters Deborah Giglio and Stephanie Musumeci; and two grandsons.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., New York, NY 10032; LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa FL 33609; or any charity in his name.
