TAMPA - Mary Stargel, the 14-year-old daughter of a state legislator and Polk County circuit judge, is in fair condition at Tampa General Hospital today after being admitted in critical condition Saturday night after a crash in Auburndale.
The Lakeland teen was hospitalized after the 1985 Mercedes-Benz she was riding in collided with a pickup, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.
The Mercedes was driven by Stargel's 17-year-old brother, Robert, and is registered to her parents, state Rep. Kelly Stargel and Circuit Judge John Stargel.
Troopers said Robert Stargel was northbound on State Road 559 in Auburndale and turned left on County Road 557A into the path of a 2003 Nissan pickup driven by Paul Kish, 46, of Polk City.
Stargel was cited with violating the right of way. He and Kish had minor injuries.
