TAMPA - Tampa International Airport is scheduled to open a Carrabba's Italian Grill on Wednesday on the main terminal's third level. It will be the 11th Carrabba's in the Tampa Bay area.
The airport Carrabba's replaces The Wharf, which occupied a key corner position on the airport's departure level opposite T.G.I. Friday's, the airport's busiest restaurant.
The opening is part of an ongoing realignment and upgrading of retail shops at Tampa International. That includes a Harley-Davidson accessories shop and a Brookstone gift store that opened Friday and a recently remodeled main newsstand area.
Colors, a fashion apparel brand of Italian company Benetton Group, opened in July, and a Sam Snead's Tavern opened in Airside A, which is used by AirTran, Continental, Frontier, JetBlue and Northwest airlines.
The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority projected $10.8 million in revenue for the airport from food and beverage concessions charges for the current fiscal year that ends Sept. 30. That's a 9 percent increase from a year ago.
