RIVERVIEW - More than a dozen people plan to shed their tresses during a visit to Kids Community College Charter School on Tuesday.
They're doing it for love –- Locks of Love, to be specific. The nonprofit organization provides wigs to people in the United States and Canada who have lost their hair to illness.
"We'll have four hairdressers," said Nicole Williams, director of charter schools for Kids Community College, a nonprofit charter school with campuses in Riverview and Lithia.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Riverview school's office, 10530 Lake St. Charles Blvd.
"We probably have 10 people already signed up, seven students and three from the outside, and we are encouraging the community to come on out and participate," Williams said. "We even have a bald cancer survivor who will talk to the kids about the importance of donating hair."
Students Jackie Deaton, a fourth-grader, and Tatiana Ceballero, in fifth grade, came up with the idea after seeing a television program about Locks of Love.
If the youngsters raise at least $250, members of the school's governing board will kiss a pig.
For information, call the school at (813) 671-1440.
