TAMPA - The Lightning were left feeling blue after wearing their new jerseys in a 7-3 loss to New Jersey.
For the second time in the franchise's existence, Tampa Bay unveiled an alternate third jersey Sunday, which will be worn 14 times this season, including the Lightning's next home game on Wednesday against the New York Rangers.
The jersey is a solid blue with black sleeves and silver and white trim. The word "Bolts" - a nickname used for the team - is crested diagonally along the chest with the team's primary logo placed on each shoulder. The tail on the back of the jersey has the "Tampa Bay" written across the bottom while the underarms have blue, silver and white stripes, a uniform design put in by team founder Phil Esposito.
The jerseys hit retail stores starting today, and fans who purchase a jersey at any area Champs Sports will receive two tickets to an upcoming game.
The last time the Lightning wore an alternate home jersey was during the 1996-97 season.
OLIE'S ROUGH STRETCH: G Olie Kolzig turned in his poorest performance of the season Sunday, allowing five goals on 28 shots before being pulled at the 11:39 mark of the second period.
"I definitely needed to be better tonight, no question," Kolzig said. "There's three goals I should have had tonight."
In his past three starts, Kolzig has allowed 13 goals on 97 shots (.866 save percentage) while taking the loss in all three with a 5.20 goals-against average.
TRIP SOUTH: With injuries keeping G Mike Smith (lower body) and D Lukas Krajicek (lower body) out of action Sunday, Tampa Bay recalled G Karri Ramo and D Jamie Heward from the team's minor-league affiliate in Norfolk before the game.
Both played on Saturday for the Admirals before getting on a plane to join the Lightning. Ramo came in relief of Kolzig and allowed two goals on 17 shots. Heward played 16:07 and was a minus-1.
