A man accused of robbing two banks in Palm Harbor received additional charges today, police say.
Charles Canales, 25, of 2519 38th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, was charged with a third count of armed robbery in connection with a bank robbery in Clearwater on Sept. 24, police say.
Detectives say Canales walked into the SunTrust Bank at 2150 Cleveland St., Clearwater, and asked to speak with a manager. Once in the manager's office, Canales took out a handgun and demanded money, Clearwater police spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said in a statement.
The manager got an undisclosed amount of cash from a teller and gave it to Canales, detectives say.
The manager returned from a vacation today and identified Canales as the man who robbed the bank, Watts said.
Canales was arrested Friday after a joint investigation by Clearwater police, St. Petersburg police and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Canales is being held on $420,000 bail in Pinellas County Jail.
Detectives say Canales is a suspect in a pair of St. Petersburg bank robberies. Police are looking for a possible accomplice, Watts said.
