Tampa Electric and Hillsborough County Schools on Tuesday will launch a pilot program designed to promote energy efficiency to third, fourth and fifth graders through the theater.
Stageworks, a professional theater group, will perform Pow!r Play at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Lockhart Elementary School in Tampa, 3719 N. 17th St. The play, which runs through May 2009, is part of a three-year pilot project recently approved by the Florida Public Service Commission, Tampa Electric said.
The play was written by Ed Stevens and Peter Nasen. It will be performed by John Hooper, Josh Goff and Magali Naas.
Each student will receive a gift packet that includes a comic-style workbook emphasizing practices that can help families cut their monthly electric bills. Also, Tampa Electric will reach out to parents through letters encouraging them to complete a free online home energy audit with their children.
The partnership also includes the Arts Council of Hillsborough County.
Tampa Electric is Hillsborough County's chief supplier of electricity, serving about 667,000 customers.
