Students Learn 'Pow!r Play'

Tampa Electric Co. and Hillsborough County schools will launch a pilot program today designed to promote energy efficiency to third-, fourth- and fifth-graders through the theater.

Stageworks, a professional theater group, will perform "Pow!r Play" at 9 a.m. at Lockhart Elementary School in Tampa.

The play, which runs through May, is part of a three-year pilot project recently approved by the Florida Public Service Commission, Tampa Electric said.

Each student will receive a gift packet that includes a comic-style workbook emphasizing practices that can help families cut their monthly electric bills. Also, Tampa Electric will reach out to parents through letters encouraging them to complete a free online home energy audit with their children.

The partnership also includes the Arts Council of Hillsborough County.

Tampa Electric is Hillsborough County's chief supplier of electricity, serving about 667,000 customers.
