Santa Claus took some time out of his busy pre-Christmas schedule and made a special appearance at a Tampa school this morning.
Santa met up with local police and fire crews at 8:30 a.m. for a special escort through Ybor City to DeSoto Elementary School.
Once at DeSoto, Santa read holiday stories to the children and handed out small gifts.
The children were chosen for the special visit by Sincerely Santa, an organization that works to identify schools with many children who are from families the organization says are economically challenged, according to a written statement from the group.
Sincerely Santa has been providing children toys and clothing during the holidays for 20 years, said Diane Miller of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
