Clearwater Man Charged In Girlfriend's Beating Death

CLEARWATER - A 27-year old Clearwater man was booked into the Pinellas County Jail this morning shortly after his girlfriend died from injuries she suffered in a beating Tuesday night, Clearwater police said.

Jeremy Haygood, who is unemployed, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, Jeanine Ann Tuckey, 33, Clearwater public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said.

About 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Haygood and Tuckey got into an argument in the backyard of the home where they were staying at 1161 Kingsley St., according to Watts and jail records. Haygood suspected Tuckey had been cheating on him, jail records said.

Haygood head-butted Tuckey, knocking her to the ground, the records said. She got back up and then Haygood choked her and knocked her legs out from under her, causing her to fall and land on her head, the records said. The two then ended up sitting together on a toolbox, where Haygood elbowed her in the chest, the records said. She then became unconscious, the records said. Haygood went inside and told the family.

Tuckey was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, and Haygood at some point was taken to jail on a warrant charging him with violating the terms of his probation related to a drunken driving charge, Watts and jail records said.

Tuckey died at 7:45 a.m. today, Watts said, and Haygood was charged with second-degree murder.

Among her injuries was some bleeding about the brain, jail records said.

The home was that of Tuckey's family, and the couple had recently moved in there from Missouri, Watts said.

The couple had lived together for three years.
