KEY WEST - A Monroe County sheriff's deputy is dead after his car collided with a tractor trailer in the Florida Keys.
The deputy was 38-year-old Nick Pham (FAM'), a traffic enforcement official for more than four years. Pham's unmarked patrol car collided with the trailer shortly after noon Wednesday on the main highway in the Keys.
Pham was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin says he had been on patrol when the accident happened. Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Pat Santangelo says Pham's car had its emergency lights on, but it is unclear if he was chasing someone.
The FHP is questioning 43-year-old truck driver Thomas Hollingsworth of Sarasota. No charges have been filed against him.
Pham leaves behind a wife and several children.
