NEW PORT RICHEY - Gulf junior quarterback Madison Burr will watch Friday's Class 3A region semifinal game vs. Pasco from the sideline.
Burr injured his left leg and knee during the Bucs 49-35 win against St. Cloud in the quarterfinals last Friday.
"It felt fine Friday but it stiffened Saturday and by Sunday it was really swollen," Burr said.
A MRI on Tuesday revealed a torn tendon in his upper leg and a Class 2 sprain of his left knee.
"It doesn't look like Madison will need surgery but he won't be able to play anymore this season," Gulf coach Jay Fulmer said.
Sophomore Jacob Jackson will get the start against Pasco. Jackson was 2 of 4 for 20 yards against Ridgewood in his only start this season when Burr was recovering from a foot injury. Bucs running back Adrian Golden rushed for 432 yards and scored 6 touchdowns in that game.
