TAMPA - For the past three weeks, Jesuit High School students have been stockpiling canned and nonperishable goods for an annual food drive, and today school officials announced that 20,000 pounds of food has accrued.
It was donated to area food banks, according to a written statement from the school.
In 2007, the students collected about 12,000 pounds of food.
This week, Jesuit students packed up truckloads of food for America's Second Harvest of Tampa Bay and E.C.H.O. food bank in Brandon.
Additionally, students donated more than 3 tons of rice to Help Brings Hope to Haiti.
The donation to America's Second Harvest was the single largest donation to that group this year, officials said.
