TAMPA - A Tampa man was critically injured today when he lost control of a car on Interstate 75 and crashed into a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 5:30 a.m.
Jonathan W. Newman, 26, was driving his two-door Chevrolet south on I-75 and was about to get on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County when he lost control of his car and went off the road, troopers said.
Newman's car ran into the back of a parked semitrailer driven by John Leslie Chewning, 34, of Auburndale, the highway patrol said. The Chevrolet wound up on the grass shoulder.
Newman was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. He was not wearing a seat belt.
