CLEARWATER - A 27-year old Clearwater man was arrested Wednesday morning shortly after his girlfriend died from injuries she suffered in a beating Tuesday night, Clearwater police said.
Jeremy Haygood was charged with second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, Jeanine Ann Tuckey, 33, Clearwater public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said.
About 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Haygood and Tuckey began arguing in the backyard of the home where they were staying at 1161 Kingsley St., according to Watts and jail records.
According to jail records, Haygood suspected Tuckey had been cheating on him and head-butted Tuckey, knocking her to the ground. Haygood then choked her and knocked her legs out from under her, and she landed on her head, the records said. Haygood then elbowed her in the chest, according to the reports.
When Tuckey became unconscious, Haygood went inside and told the family, the records said.
Tuckey was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, and Haygood, who is unemployed, was taken to jail on a warrant charging him with violating his probation related to a drunken driving charge.
Tuckey died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Watts said. Among her injuries was bleeding of the brain, jail records said.
The home was that of Tuckey's family, and the couple had recently moved there from Missouri, Watts said. She said the couple had lived together for three years.
