Musketeers Pull Away For Win

BATON ROUGE, La. - Dee Dee Jernigan had career highs with 15 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 25 Xavier to a 57-48 victory against LSU on Wednesday night.

Jernigan scored six points during an 8-0 run which gave the Musketeers a 50-42 lead. The Lady Tigers came no closer than four points the rest of the game.

April Phillips scored a career-high 12 points for Xavier (3-2). Ta'Shia Phillips also scored 12 points for the Musketeers. Allison Hightower had 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for LSU (1-2).

The Lady Tigers closed the first half on a 12-5 run to go ahead by five points.

Hightower's field goal tied the score at 14. LaSondra Barrett followed with two foul shots and a field goal. Katherine Graham's basket gave LSU a 24-19 halftime lead.

Xavier scored the first eight points of the second half to grab a 27-24 advantage. Phillips made two baskets during that stretch. The score was then tied six times before the late surge led by Jernigan.

NORMAN, Okla. - Freshman guard Whitney Hand scored a career-high 20 points and Danielle Robinson added 17 points and a career-best eight assists as No. 4 Oklahoma (4-1) beat Marist (3-1) in a tuneup before its showdown against top-ranked Connecticut.
Courtney Paris extended her streak of double-doubles to 97 with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a season-low 22 minutes as the Sooners opened a 15-point lead in the first 6 minutes and were never challenged.

Next up for the Sooners is a trip to Connecticut on Sunday to face the No. 1 Huskies, who they have not beaten in six tries.

NO. 10 MARYLAND 68,

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 56

CANCUN, Mexico - Kristi Toliver scored 16 points and Lynetta Kizer added 13 of her 15 points during a decisive run to help No. 10 Maryland (4-1) beat South Dakota State (4-1) at the Cancun Caribbean Challenge.
Kizer also had 10 rebounds, while teammate Demauria Liles added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

NO. 24 MICHIGAN ST. 74,

NO. 23 OLD DOMINION 48

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Lauren Aitch had 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench to help No. 24 Michigan State pull away from No. 23 Old Dominion (3-2).

Mia Johnson had 13 points, all in the first half, and Kalisha Keane added 10, all after halftime, as the Spartans moved to 6-0 for just the third time in school history.

TAMPA 59,

PALM BEACH ATLANTIC 52

TAMPA - Tampa overcame a 10-point halftime deficit en route to their third consecutive victory, a victory over Palm Beach Atlantic (1-5).

The Spartans (4-1) trailed by as much as 12 early in the second half but battled back to take the lead when Hailee Sullivan hit a lay-up with 9:16 remaining. The senior guard led all scorers in the game with 17 points.
