TAMPA - With the Bucs (8-3) tied for the second-best record in the NFC behind the Giants, Tampa Bay announced a revised playoff payment plan Wednesday that could reduce obligations for season ticket-holders.
Under the new format, season ticket-holders who pay for potential playoff matchups by credit card will not be charged for a second postseason game unless the Bucs are guaranteed to host the NFC Championship Game.
In past seasons, it was necessary to pay for both potential home playoff games in advance.
General ticket prices for the NFC Wild Card round average 10 percent lower than last season's prices for the Giants-Bucs matchup, with tickets ranging from $60-$115.
For the divisional round, general tickets would range from $70-$120 and general season ticket-holders would pay $100-$155 per ticket if the NFC title game is played in Tampa.
Despite a sagging economy, Bucs officials are optimistic that postseason games in Tampa will sell out.
"Every regular-season and postseason game in the history of Raymond James Stadium has been a sellout," said club spokesman Jeff Kamis. "Given the great support of our fans, we have every confidence that trend will continue."
Any available individual-game playoff tickets will go on sale at a later date.
"We have the best fans in the NFL, and we knew this was the right thing to do after consideration of current economic conditions," said Bucs director of ticketing and sales Jason Layton, referring to the new payment plan.
If the 2008 Bucs don't host a playoff game, any money used to purchase postseason seats will be credited toward next year's ticket plan.
