Identity Of Palmetto Slaying Victim Released

Palmetto police investigators have identified the man who was killed Wednesday night in the 700 block of 8th Street West, according to a release.
Police say the man was Miguel Gomes, 36. According to acquaintances, Gomes was a transient who would occasionally stay with friends in the Palmetto area. Those acquainted with him do not think he had any family here or in Mexico, according to the release.
Detectives are continuing to follow up on leads in the case. Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to call the Palmetto Police Department at 721-2000 or Manatee County Crime Stoppers at 866-634-8477. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
