PLANT CITY - Police are searching for a man who abandoned his getaway vehicle – a bicycle – and the cash he had stolen from a bank.
A suspicious looking man walked into Regions Bank at 2303 Thonotosassa Road about 11:30 a.m. today and at gunpoint took a large amount of cash after pushing a woman down, police said. He fled the bank on a bicycle, and officers found the bike and the cash nearby, said Lt. Jerry Stwan, of the Plant City Police Department.
Officers think the same man tried to rob a Brandon bank earlier today, but bank employees didn't like his looks and locked the door as he approached, Stwann said.
Plant City police called in a tracking dog, and a helicopter searched from the air, but they weren't able to locate the man. Officers think he fled in a white Dodge pickup.
