TAMPA - A 33-year-old man died and three other people were injured after a car overturned on State Road 60 at Sam Hicks Road in Plant City earlier today, Saturday troopers said.
Christopher Ramos of Riverview and his passengers were not wearing seatbelts when the 1998 Dodge Stratus overturned about 2:28 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said. The passengers were intoxicated; tests to determine whether Ramos was intoxicated are pending, troopers said.
Ramos was driving westbound on State Road 60 at an estimated 97 mph when he lost control of the car, troopers said. The Dodge spun off the roadway into a street sign and a chain-link fence, then overturned repeatedly, ejecting the occupants.
Ramos died at the scene from his injuries. Troopers said Estanislao Vela, 36, of Plant City, was listed in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital.
Passenger David Vela, 32, also of Plant City, was listed in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. David Alan Jones, 21, of Lithia was listed in serious condition at that hospital, troopers said.
