Airbrush refining eye cream with emu oil; available at dremu.com and by calling 1-800-373-4011; $58.
By now, most folks have heard about the benefits of emu oil. The oil, made from the fat of the emu, a large native bird of Australia, provides an effective treatment for everything from burns and muscle sprains to eczema and arthritis.
With ingredients like emu oil, vitamin E, and green tea extract, Airbrush promises to "rehydrate skin and reduce puffiness within seven minutes." Well, it took a bit longer - more like seven weeks - before I saw a difference in the puffiness and crow's feet.
Airbrush, which Oprah raved about, is light and silky to the touch. It absorbs easily and doesn't irritate the eyes. And because it's so rich and concentrated, a little goes a long way. I'm going to keep this big bird around for a while. Emu, who knew?
Prescriptives All Skins Mineral Makeup with SPF 15; available at Prescriptives counters nationwide and online at prescriptives.com; foundation, $32.50; round buff brush, $30.00.
Mineral makeup is the latest rage in beauty products and at the moment, everyone and their mom seems to have some sort of mineral makeup on the market. Prescriptives waited a while before taking on the mineral frontier with its All Skins foundation, but it sure was worth the wait.
My skin goes through a dull phase when the weather starts to cool. All Skins contains radiance-emitting crystals that help absorb light and give your skin a radiant my-skin-but-better finish. It has an SPF of 15 and it controls that mid-afternoon oil slick. It delivered on its anti-sweat and humidity promises; I break a sweat just standing still and this stayed on without changing colors, caking, streaking or making me feel like I had on a mask.
Like most mineral makeup, it will take a little practice to master - in this case, it's the swirl and buff method. The coverage is pretty intense, so use it sparingly. All Skins comes in 18 shades, so you're bound to find one that matches. As for the brush - which isn't included with the foundation - it sheds a bit, but the soft bristles won't scratch your face off.
