ZEPHYRHILLS - A Zephyrhills man faces grand theft charges after city police say he was caught shoplifting at a local Walmart during Friday's after-Thanksgiving shopping.
Scott Amedee Preli, 28, of 34825 Bulk Road, was arrested at about 4:40 p.m. Friday after store officials saw him put six items, estimated to have a total value of $350, into a bag and leave the store without paying.
While he was being held at the store's security office, Preli took an eyeglasses case from his pocket and hid it behind a computer in the office, police said. The case turned out to contain a hypodermic needle, plastic bags with a white substance inside them and a spoon, police said.
Preli was charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held Saturday at the Land O' Lakes Jail on a $2,650 bond.
