TAMPA - The state and national averages for a gallon of gas dropped by 10 cents during the past seven days.
This happened in spite of tens of millions of travelers taking the roads during the Thanksgiving holiday. That did nothing to halt the slide in fuel costs, according to AAA Auto Club South.
Gas prices generally go up during a major travel holiday, but the high inventories offset the increase in demand.
Crude oil closed Friday at $54.43. Forecasters have suggested it could test the $40 level before the end of the year.
Gas prices will continue to drop during the next four weeks, according to AAA.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Florida is $1.88, nearly six cents higher than the national average.
