An argument between two workers at a Myakka City dairy farm turned violent this afternoon when one of the men was shot in the neck, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
Although he was wounded, Pedro Hernandez, 45, of Myakka City managed to keep fighting his attacker, deputies say. Hernandez then knocked the gun away from his assailant, locked the man in the farm's restroom and call 911, the sheriff's office said.
Sotera Peralto-Melgaejo, 27, of Myakka City was arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection to the shooting, detectives say.
This is what happened about 2 p.m. at Dakin Dairy, 30771 Betts Road, Myakka City, according to the sheriff's office:
Peralto-Melgaejo was upset at Hernandez for making disparaging remarks about him and followed Hernandez into a restroom to confront him.
During the argument, Peralto-Melgaejo pulled out a handgun and the two men began struggling with each other. During the fight, Hernadez was shot in the neck. His condition was not known today.
Peralto-Melgaejo was being booked tonight at Manatee County Jail.
