Pinellas County - Pinellas County deputies arrested a 21-year-old man early this morning in connection with an armed home invasion in which one victim was pistol whipped.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said Matthew Hixon pushed his way into a home where he knew the victims at about 3 a.m. today.
Hixon drove up to the home on 61 Street N. in Pinellas Park. He shoved his way inside the home when an occupant opened the front door to see who had pulled in, the sheriff's office said.
Inside, Hixon waved a gun and demanded cash from the three people inside the home. He struck one victim in the head with the gun before driving away, the sheriff's office said.
The victims told investigators they knew Hixon, and that he made no attempt to conceal his identity during the robbery, the sheriff's office said. They pointed out his van, and deputies later found it abandoned.
Deputies went to a house where Hixon spends time and found him in a bedroom with the gun used in the robbery, along with some of the stolen money, the sheriff's office said. Deputies also found a small amount of marijuana, the sheriff's office said.
Hixon was arrested about 5:30 a.m. and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
He faces charges of home invasion robbery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and violation of probation on a marijuana possession conviction, jail records show.
