USF Stops Texas Tech 71-61

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands - South Florida put four players in double figures - led by Shantia Grace's 15 points - to beat Texas Tech 71-61 in the Bulls' final game of the Paradise Jam tournament.

Porche Grant and Janae Stokes each added 13 points for South Florida, which went 2-1 in the tourney for a 6-1 mark. Brittany Denson chipped in with 12 points.

"This was a tremendous win for our basketball team," said USF coach Jose Fernandez. "We had a very successful trip here to the Paradise Jam and couldn't be more thrilled with us coming out with a 2-1 record."

OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE 32

CANYON, Tex. - The University of Tampa (6-1) completed a sweep at the 2008 West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic with a victory against Oklahoma Panhandle State University (1-6). The Spartans closed out play at the classic with consecutive victories against No. 4 Drury and OPSU.

Tampa had at least one point from 11 players, including a team-high 14 from junior forward Tiara Cook. Gianna Messina and Lauren Mason each contributed nine as Kym Taylor chipped in eight.

FLORIDA 65,

NO. 21 ARIZONA STATE 60

FREEPORT, Bahamas - Sha Brooks scored 15 of her 25 points in the second half, and Florida upset No. 21 Arizona State to win the Lucaya Division championship of the Junkanoo Jam.

Florida, which has won six straight since dropping its opener to Florida Gulf Coast, was coasting to victory when Jennifer Mossor's free throw gave the Gators a 61-46 advantage with 5:11 remaining.

Arizona State (3-2) staged a furious rally, going on a 14-2 run to close within 63-60 on Nia Fanaika's layup with 49 seconds left. Brooks, the tournament's Most Valuable Player, clinched the game by sinking a pair of free throws with 7 seconds remaining.

VALPARAISO 80, FSU 74

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Valparaiso (3-1) went on an 11-0 run late in the first half, then held off a late FSU comeback late in the game to win the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational.

FSU (5-2) was led by senior guard Mara Freshour, who had a season-high 16 points. Junior forward Jacinta Monroe had 13 points, while three others were in double figures: Courtney Ward (12), Cierra Bravard (11) and Angel Gray (10).
