TAMPA - Volunteers are taking part in an effort at Raymond James Stadium to collect sports equipment for needy kids in the area.
The effort is a joint effort of the Glazer Family Foundation and the Tampa Bay Super Bowl Host Committee. Volunteers fanned out at stadium gates and club entrances before today's Tampa Bay Buccaneers game, collecting new and "gently used" equipment from fans.
The equipment will go to two youth centers established as part of the 2001 Super Bowl in Tampa. Known as "Super Kids – Super Sharing," the project has collected thousands of books and pieces of sports equipment for kids in Super Bowl host cities in the past nine years.
The program will be collecting books and equipment in December in partnership with area schools, which will tap students for donations. To participate or for information, go to www.TampaBaySuperBowl.com.
