The Florida Highway Patrol arrested an 18-year-old motorist Tuesday in connection with the June 20 death of a teen passenger.
William Minton, of 18401 Boonesfarm Drive, Brooksville, was charged with negligence and driving with a suspended license resulting in a fatality. Minton was the driver a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck east on Laura Lee Drive in Hernando County that included 18-year-old Gary Comeau and six other teen passengers, the highway patrol said.
Comeau, of Port Richey, and two passengers sat in the bed of the pickup. As Minton was driving, Comeau extended his body around the side of the truck so he could talk to the passengers inside the cab, the highway patrol said. Minton began to drive recklessly, swerving side to side, investigators said. Comeau lost his balance and fell out of the bed of the truck onto the pavement.
Comeau was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died from his injuries on June 27. At the time of the crash, Minton's license was suspended because he did not pay traffic fines, the highway patrol said.
