TAMPA - University of South Florida All-American DE George Selvie (ankle) and DT Terrell McClain (ankle) likely will miss their second consecutive game when the Bulls open Big East play against Pittsburgh on Thursday.
Selvie and McClain were limited at Tuesday's practice, but their workload increased from Monday, USF coach Jim Leavitt said.
"Well, we definitely wouldn't go less," Leavitt said. "We got a game Thursday. We want to definitely do more. So they're doing more.
"We'll see on game day if they can play. I'm assuming they're going to try to play if they can."
The status of kickoff specialist Justin Teachey (thigh), who missed last week's game at N.C. State, also is unknown. P Delbert Alvarado handled kickoffs last week.
LESSON LEARNED: In a span of only 16 days last season, USF went from being ranked No. 2 in the country to unranked. QB Matt Grothe believes the No. 10 Bulls (5-0) are better suited this season to handle their lofty ranking.
"I think we're more mature," Grothe said. "We know we just need to play football and not worry about everything and it will all come as it should if we keep winning."
Grothe is confident USF can successfully maneuver through the Big East with a bull's-eye on its back.
"Teams are going to come after us, we know that. We're not going to go out there and have any cakewalks," he said. "We've done a pretty good job of taking care of the ball this year. If we can continue that and just execute and put points on the board, we can do whatever we want."
ODDS AND ENDS: Scouts from the NFL's Chiefs, Bills and Browns attended Tuesday's practice. ... Thursday's game can be heard on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 126.
