TAMPA - Drivers heading to St. Petersburg on Interstate 275 faced bumper-to-bumper traffic about 1 p.m. today as they passed a beige sedan on fire near the hump of the Howard Frankland Bridge.
A black plume of smoke could be seen from about a mile away. The car, which appeared to be a Nissan Altima, was fully engulfed.
It was pulled over to the right side of the bridge with smoke and flames billowing from it. No one appeared to be inside the car.
The vehicle was not blocking any lanes of traffic, but there were visual delays as drivers slowed to pass it.
Emergency officials had not arrived as of 1 p.m.
