Polk County detectives are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Wahneta.
About 7:10 p.m., undercover detectives John Ripke and Preston Davis saw a suspicious person near Avenue A and Seventh Street West.
One recognized 28-year-old Michael E. Vaughn of Winter Haven from a prior arrest. The detectives tried stopping Vaughn, and he pointed a gun at them, deputies say.
Ripke and Davis fired at Vaughn, wounding his right forearm, a Polk County Sheriff's Office news release states.
Vaughn was taken to Winter Haven Hospital. He is in stable condition.
The detectives weren't hurt.
Ripke, 40, was hired in September 2005. Davis, 24, was hired in April 2007. Both will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
