THE DIFFERENCE: The Durant (3-2) defense posted a shutout with outstanding line and linebacker play by limiting Brandon (1-4) to less than 150 yards of total offense and posting five sacks.
GAME NOTES: Durant senior running back Ryan Rice carried the ball 10 times for 52 yards before being leaving in the third quarter after a shoulder injury. Rice was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. ... The Eagles failed to capitalize on a Durant fumbled punt snap on their own 20-yard line, missing a 22-yard field goal in the first half which would have given them the lead. ... The Eagles also had a chance to get back in the game late in the second half on a flea flicker play. The Eagles receiver was 25 yards behind the Cougar secondary but couldn't handle a perfectly thrown pass by the running back. ... Cougar sophomore quarterback Je'Twan Smith, in only his fifth start, added 34 yards on 11 carries and threw a touchdown pass to Rance Rutherford in the final minute of the second quarter.
STAT OF THE GAME: Durant backup running backs Antonio Morris and John Hicks combined to carry the ball 12 times for 101 yards and added two receptions for 36 yards.
