WHO'S HOT
Gulf - Junior RB Bubba Golden (432 rushing yards, six touchdowns in Friday's win vs. Ridgewood) paces Pasco County's lone unbeaten team.
Alonso -The Ravens have reeled off three consecutive wins, with the offense averaging 31 points during that stretch.
Wharton - After consecutive losses to open the season, the Wildcats have won three straight to climb back above .500.
WHO'S NOT
Freedom - It's three losses in a row for the Patriots, and to make matters worse, QB Josh Grady (hamstring) is hurting.
Brandon - The banged-up Eagles have lost three straight, and two of those losses were shutouts.
STREAK SNAPPED
Not once in his 14 years at East Bay had Indians coach Brian Thornton lost to Chamberlain at E.G. Simmons Field - until Chamberlain's 21-6 come-from-behind win Friday in Gibsonton.
"We were 3-0 against them here," Thornton said. "We beat some very good teams Chiefs coach Billy Turner had, too. We beat them when they had Brodrick Bunkley. We beat them at their place that year and the next year we beat them here. Two years ago we beat them here, 14-0. We've had some really good games with Chamberlain."
Dating to 2002, East Bay actually had won four of the previous six meetings against Chamberlain before Friday's loss. The Chiefs have now won the past two in the series after a 31-0 win vs. the Indians in 2007.
DEFENSIVE GURUS
Armwood's defense has certainly showed this season why it is so highly regarded. Friday night's 41-0 victory against Jefferson was the Hawks' third consecutive shutout, the best defensive stretch in program history since 2005, when the Hawks' posted four consecutive shutouts.
To put things into perspective, the other 31 Hillsborough County teams have combined to post only eight shutouts in 2008. That number includes Spoto's 6-0 shutout of Newsome in Week 1, but not the Spartans' forfeited games, which are listed as 1-0 losses in official records. Berkeley Prep, which has two shutouts, is the only other county program with multiple shutouts.
Armwood's defense actually is an offensive miscue away from four shutouts this year, considering Plant's only points in the season opener came via a safety on a bad snap. The Hawks' defense has allowed only one touchdown this season and 10 points, all against Wharton in a Week 2 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
Times, in five games, Alonso junior QB C.J. Bennett has thrown for at least three touchdowns in a game this season.
100-yard rushing performances, in five games, for Hillsborough senior RB Lindsey Lamar this season.
Points per game Tampa Bay Tech is allowing this season. The Titans have held their opponent to 10 or less points in four of their five games.
Games since Durant last won by shutout. The Cougars, who defeated Brandon 10-0 on Friday, last posted a shutout Sept. 22, 2006, in a 35-0 win vs. Lakeland Jenkins.
