TAMPA - Three men were killed crossing streets in two accidents about an hour apart in Hillsborough and Pasco counties Saturday night.
The Florida Highway Patrol is trying to identify one of the men and is notifying family members of the other two who were killed crossing State Road 60 near Faulkenberg Road.
No charges were filed against the drivers in either accident.
The first happened about 8:54 p.m. when the two men were crossing State Road 60 near the Hooters and McDonald's restaurants.
Esther Smith-Thomas, 76, heading east on State Road 60, hit her brakes but was unable to stop before hitting both men, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
One man died at the scene and the second died at Tampa General Hospital.
Smith-Thomas and Teresa Thomas-Lemmond, 49, a passenger in the 2006 Mercury sedan, were not injured. Both women live in Laurinburg, N.C., the accident report said.
The second accident happened about 9:56 p.m. at U.S. 19 north of Hudson Avenue in Pasco County.
Donald Willis, 28, of Odessa, was driving south on U.S. 19 when he struck a man crossing the road, the highway patrol said.
Neither Willis nor a 22-year-old woman passenger was injured. Willis was driving a 1994 Chevrolet sports utility vehicle.
The man died at Bayfront Medical Center about 90 minutes after the accident, the highway patrol said.
