TAMPA - TAMPA - A T-shirt created by Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon and handed out to players and team personnel is for sale to the public with proceeds going to charity.
The "All Aboard the Maddon Bus" shirt was created to show that the Rays' pennant chase is a team effort with a different player seeming to provide the spark for each win.
A Tampa graphics company is printing the shirts, which can be purchased at Ferg's Sports Bar and Grill or Bucs Stuff outlets, said Fred Fillah, owner of the company that is licensing and distributing the shirts.
The price is about $20, he said.
Part of the proceeds will go to the John Challis Courage for Life Foundation, a charity selected by Maddon.
The foundation was founded by Challis, who at age 16 was diagnosed with an adult form of liver cancer. Challis outlived the expectations of doctors and started the foundation to help high school athletes with life-threatening illnesses. Challis died Aug. 19.
The shirts can also be purchased online at the foundation's site, www.courageforlifefoundation.org/index.htm
