CLEARWATER - Police today released the identity of a man who was killed by an out-of-control car Sunday afternoon while he was taking cover from the rain in a bus shelter.
Clearwater authorities identified him as Frederick Joseph Dewine, 72, of 145 43rd Ave., Apt. 1, St. Pete Beach, said Joelle Castelli, a spokeswoman for Clearwater.
Dewine had taken cover in a shelter on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard near the Park Place Boulevard when a 2005 Nissan crashed into it about 6:30 p.m., Castelli said.
The driver, Katerina Wyakimovich, 31, of Tarpon Springs, lost control of the car as she drove through heavy rain, hit a puddle and hydroplaned, Castelli said. The Nissan then crashed into the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus shelter.
