TAMPA - A 36-year-old Tampa man has been charged with first-degree murder of a child. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Robert Bradwell was arrested today after he killed his girlfriend's 2 1/2-year-old daughter.
A sheriff's office news release said Makaila Thompson and her 4-year-old brother were at their home at 14204 N. 20th St. on Sept. 5 with Bradwell while their mother was at work. Bradwell had been living with the children's mother for about a year.
Around 9:30 p.m., Bradwell took Makaila to University Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the news release said. Bradwell told detectives that the child fell in the bathtub, according to the news release.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office said Makaila died as a result of blunt impact and that the death was a homicide.
An arrest warrant was issued today for Bradwell. He was located and later arrested at the Sheriff's District 1 Office. Bradwell is being held without bail.
