WHAT: Breezy's Beads is raising money to enroll a team of walkers in the Tampa Bay Breast Cancer 3-Day, a 60-mile walk to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The team, led by Breezy's Beads owner Kim Tice, is selling handmade bracelets with pink and rose Swarovski crystals, pink alabaster and sterling silver valley beads accented with the breast cancer ribbon and heart toggles.
WHY: The team needs to raise registration fees for the walk and to honor Wendi Mangold, a loyal customer of the bead craft store and mother of three who died of breast cancer in March 2007. The bracelets are named in honor of Mangold's 3-year-old daughter, Mary, nicknamed "Flower."
WHEN: Entry fees will be accepted until the walk takes place Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 at Fort De Soto Park in Pinellas County. Each team member must raise $2,200.
COST: The bracelets cost $60 each, representing $1 per mile of the walk.
WHERE: Bracelets are available at Breezy's Beads, 226 Oakfield Drive, Brandon. Other breast cancer-related beaded items and cookies in the shape of the signature pink ribbon also are available.
CAN'T GET THERE? Those who are unable to visit the shop can donate to Tice's team by going to www.the3day.org, clicking on "DONATE NOW," entering Tice's name in the search fields and following the prompts.
