Charlie's Wine Cellar Prepares To Close Doors

TAMPA - Add Charlie's Wine Cellar and Wine Bar to the list of South Tampa destinations closing shop.
After 18 years in operation, Charlie's will hold its last wine tasting Friday and close Saturday.
The business, at 533 S. Howard Ave., simply couldn't withstand the drop in sales after its next-door neighbor, Whaley's Market, closed, owner Glynn Giacone said in an e-mail Sunday. Whaley's closed in August after 75 years in business.
Last year, Charlie's was named one of the nation's top 20 wine bars by Go Magazine, the in-flight magazine for AirTran Airways.
